How Do I Submit Teacher Observations?

The Implementation Dashboard allows school-based users to collect teacher observations to provide additional data to inform school system and school implementation support plans. The dashboard will show a roll-up of observation data, allowing you to see trends in instruction within each observation tool.

Users completing observations should keep the following in mind:

  • Users do not need to observe all indicators in the tool. Each form includes the option to select “Not observed” for any indicator not relevant to the specific observation completed.
  • Observation data displays in the Implementation Dashboard at the close of the current submission window as a roll-up of all observations for each observation tool.
    • School dashboards show a roll-up of data for all teachers within the school.
    • State dashboards show a roll-up of data across all schools within the state.
    • School system dashboards show a roll-up of data across all schools within the school system.

Best Practices for Completing Observations

The observation forms do not collect identifying information for teachers. We recommend you keep a separate document to track which teacher aligns with each observation number. The observation numbers are specific to each content area.

Be sure to communicate the purpose of the observations with teachers and reinforce that observations are not meant to be evaluative and do not capture any identifying information about them.

Each content-area teacher should be observed at least once within the submission window for a minimum of 15 minutes. This ensures the data in the dashboard shows the overall trends in instruction as measured by the observation tool.

Observations can be edited after they are submitted. However, it is recommended that observers complete an observation form in one sitting to ensure accuracy of the data submitted.
